Gary,
Firstly, I want to commend you for taking a proactive approach to your well-being and quality of life. We can only reflect the absolute divinity of God when the reflection of ourselves is divine as well. Trying out a pump for the first time is a lot on its own, and adding a partner into the mix brings its own set of performance pressures…(no pun intended!).
The good news is you do not need to feel any apprehension about bringing a device into your shared routine.
The truth is, for most women, being the catalyst for a partner's arousal is extremely satisfying. Luckily for them, the evidence of accomplishment in that regard is naturally and unequivocally apparent. The process of building that connection over years is one of the most rewarding parts of the intimate relationship, and a pump simply introduces a new tool to achieve that same result. What it doesn’t do, is degrade the core tenets of a man and woman’s intimate relationship…it adapts them….just as all things must as our journey goes on.
Depending on your relationship's natural rhythm, there are a couple of ways to approach this without overhauling your dynamic. You could invite your wife to handle the operation, treating it almost like a specialized protocol where she takes charge of the fit, pacing, timeline, etc. Handing over that responsibility completely removes your need to worry about performance anxiety. Alternatively, you can take the lead on setting the scene….turning the warm-up into an intentional ritual…inviting her to dress up or get dressed for work perhaps….lay out the tools together, and work together directing an endurance exercise in preventing a release. In that scenario, she focuses her energy on managing the pacing and the tools according to the flow you have set, keeping the focus entirely on mutual enjoyment and heightened tension.
Whichever direction you lean into, talking openly about the pump as a shared experience rather than a private crutch can turn a potential source of stress into one of the most engaging parts of your intimacy. In fact, the amount of patients I see now who are embracing endurance edging is remarkable, and it is proving to be such a fantastic way to continue enjoying each other throughout life’s cycle of change.
